North American sales of LCD TVs surged in the first quarter, as demand outpaced supply. Thats' according to numbers released by DisplaySearch Monday.
According to the Quarterly Global TV Shipment and Forecast Report, shipments jumped 23 percent over the same time the year before, to 7.2 million units. The move upward, which followed the first-ever year-to-year quarterly decline in shipments, was attributed to closeout pricing, as well as clearance sales as Circuit City went out of business.
DisplaySearch also found that Vizio has moved into the number one spot in LCD shipments, concurring with a survey released last week by iSuppli Corp. In overall sales, Samsung led, followed by Vizio and Sony.
