NPD: CE Holiday Revenue Dropped Nearly Six Percent
Overall revenue for the consumer electronics industry in the 2011 holiday season was down 5.9 percent from the 2010 total with $9.5 billion. That's according to numbers released last week by the NPD Group's Weekly Tracking Service.
The decline follows a 6.2 percent drop from 2009 to 2010.
"2010 was the first year in quite awhile where the real drags on the core CE marketplace were not TVs and PCs," NPD's Stephen Baker said as part of the announcement. "Revenue for those two segments outperformed while the rest of the market dropped by more than 7 percent." He also pointed at declining categories such as DVD, GPS and mp3 players.
