NPD: CE Sales Rise Again
Despite an economy still seen as weak, the U.S. consumer technology industry posted three percent growth in June over the period the year before, according to figures released earlier this week by the NPD Group.
The growth, driven largely by PCs and flat panel TVs, brought domestic sales in the segment to $6.6 billion during the month. The industry had posted 7 percent year-over-year growth in May.
“Two months of solid growth in troubling economic times is great news for the electronics industry,” Stephen Baker, the group’s vice president of industry analysis, said as part of the release. He cautioned, however, that “temporary success should not obscure the need to deliver more exciting, compelling products as we head into the back half of the year, where a majority of the consumer technology sales occur.”
