NPD: Slightly Less Back-to-School Spending on CE Expected
While consumers are expecting to spend about the same amount of money on overall back-to-school purchases as last year, they are expecting to spend slightly less on consumer electronics than in 2010, according to NPD Group numbers released Monday.
According to the survey, 27 percent of those asked plan to spend on electronics for back-to-school, compared with 30 percent last year. Electronics remains in fifth place among back-to-school categories, behind school supplies, apparel, footwear and school bags.
"The consumer is holding on, but it is an indication that consumers remain cautious about their spending," Marshal Cohen, chief industry analyst for the NPD Group, said.
