NRF Unveils Latest “Store of the Future”
At the National Retail Federation’s 96th Annual Convention, January 14 - 17 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City, the “Store of the Future” is once again on display. This year, the focus is on how retail spaces might become more environmentally friendly with such technologies as LED (courtesy of Color Kinetics) providing a more energy-efficient lighting alternative.
Digital Agency IconNicholson plans to debut what they describe as “Social Retailing,” a system that involves customers sharing shopping experiences in real time on a network while retailers monitor inventory and collect data on consumer behavior. Says Rachael McBrearty, VP creative strategy for IconNicholson, “The demonstrations in X07 provide retailers with a vision for how they can reach the audience at the center of the social computing craze seen in websites like YouTube and MySpace, to connect in-store shopping with the online world in a way that is new, entertaining -- and completely relevant.”
The 11,000 square foot “Store of the Future” also includes cell phone interaction technology, floating sound and theater systems, digital and wireless floor video displays and RFID payment and self-checkout kiosks.
