NTIA Certifies More Converter Boxes
National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) last week announced that it has now certified 150 converter boxes, as part of its TV Converter Box Coupon Program. The agency, part of the U.S. Department of Commerce, said that more than 6 million boxes have been purchased so far as part of the government’s program.
“The fact that more than 150 converters have been certified within 16 months indicates a truly remarkable partnership with so many electronics manufacturers, who have voluntarily met the standards of the converter box program,” Meredith Baker, the acting Assistant Secretary and NTIA administrator, said as part of the announcement. “On behalf of the American people, I thank the manufacturers for stepping up to the challenge to design boxes in a short time, and I thank the retailers who so quickly made these products available to help the nation switch to digital television.”
