NYPD Pulls Body Cameras Off Streets After One Explodes
We’ve seen exploding hoverboards. Those were then followed by exploding smartphones. Now, though, you can add exploding body cameras to the list of tech products that have experienced some sort of catastrophic battery malfunction.
According to a press release published over the weekend, the New York City Police Department said it was pulling thousands of the Vievu LE-5 body-worn cameras that its officers use from active duty after one exploded. Thankfully, no one was injured in the incident.
The NYPD said that the officer who retrieved the camera for use during an overnight tour noticed that there was smoke exiting from the bottom of the portal and immediately removed it from his uniform. After removing it, the device exploded.
