CompUSA has entered a one-of-a-kind relationship with NetSuite to become the first mass-market retailer to offer on-demand software. This type of product, which is delivered as a service via a network as opposed to a disk in a box, has been gaining in popularity since the 90’s. Worldwide subscription license revenues are expected to hit $43 billion by 2008, 34 percent of the entire software market, according to research firm IDC.
NetSuite, which rolled out Tuesday at 10 CompUSA’s in New York and Connecticut, is designed to be an on-demand all-in-one management solution for small to medium-sized businesses. The company’s CEO, Zach Nelson, seems confident about the arrangement, stating, “Software on-demand is truly replacing software shipped in a box.”
