Headphone Market Predictions for 2011
Over the last two years, however, we’ve also been in development with an affordable full-range mix of active noise-canceling headphones. At CES 2010 we introduced the over-ear ATH-ANC27 and the on-ear ATH-ANC25, which both debuted with exceptional noise-cancellation levels and accessories for under $100. This year, we completed the line by introducing our in-ear ATH-ANC23, which will also retail below $100. With 90% active noise-cancellation, a choice of four different ear tip sizes and an in-line volume control, this headphone gives the most for your money.
*Rubin:* We saw a 20% to 30% jump in headphone sales. The reason is that we followed the trends and leveraged the new technologies, especially for smartphones, which are quickly taking the place of iPods and MP3 players as media players of choice. We added an accessory of a microphone and a remote that could be attached to a headphone, and this year, we’re building that right into some of the cords.
We had also done a great job in 2010 of building products to appeal to a mass-market customer—things that fit everybody. Being able to have a full-breadth lineup has been a big plus for us.
