On the same day that Jules Genachowski was confirmed as FCC chairman by the U.S. Senate, President Obama named the former Commerce Department official who administered the federal converter box program to the final open seat on the commission.
According to the New York Times, Meredith Attwell Baker, who had most recently served as head of the Commerce Department's National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), has been named to one of the Republican slots on the commission. Baker will be joined by Democrats Genachowski, Mignon Clyburn and Michael Copps, and Republican Robert McDowell, barring Senate confirmation of Baker and Clyburn.
Genachowski was confirmed unanimously by the Senate.
