Onkyo Sets Forth Product Line Expansion
By David Dritsas
While continuing introductions of home theater audio/video receivers and DVD players, Onkyo is expanding in the areas of executive mini-systems and all-in-one home theater systems and is entering the multimedia (PC) speaker market.
At press demonstrations held at Onkyo's U.S headquarters in Upper Saddle River, N.J., the company showed the newest in its line of home A/V products. In its new multimedia line, three products are starting out a line that the company says is only in the first stage. One is an audio processing box designed specifically for Apple Macintosh systems, and the second a similar device for Windows-based systems, although it will work with Apple systems as well. Both are able to process Dolby Digital and DTS sound sound formats as well as enhance two-channel sound with Dolby's Pro Logic II. Third product in the lineup is the GXW-5.1 FX-Digital Theater Station, a full 5.1 speaker system, with a powered 25-Watt subwoofer. In total, the system delivers 75 watts. The speaker set retails for $329.95.
