Over Half of Connected TV Users Use Apps Weekly
Of TV households that own connected TVs, 60 percent use a TV-based app at least once a week, with video services such as YouTube and Netflix the most popular apps. That's according to numbers released this week by In-Stat.
In addition, shipments of connected TVs with apps will grow annually by 36 percent in the next five years, while most purchases of TVs with connected capabilities are not necessarily due towards the connectivity.
“As expected, Netflix and YouTube currently dominate the TV application space,” Keith Nissen, Research Director of In-Stat, said as part of the announcement. “But as Netflix competitors become more numerous and as applications are optimized for the big screen, TV apps will become part of the mainstream TV viewing experience.”
