Over a Million Smart Watches Seen Shipping this Year
No major CE company has yet introduced a smartwatch, but everyone from Apple to Google to Microsoft is supposedly working on one. That's why ABI Research has forecasted that 1.2 million of the devices will be shipped worldwide this year.
“The strong potential emergence of smart watches can be attributed to several reasons,” ABI Research senior analyst Joshua Flood said in a statement. “Contributing factors include the high penetration of smartphones in many world markets, the wide availability and low cost of MEMS sensors, energy efficient connectivity technologies such as Bluetooth 4.0, and a flourishing app ecosystem.”
ABI has released a report on the topic called “Market Opportunities for Smart Watches."
