Panasonic Paces VIERA TV Rollouts into Summer
Panasonic has begun a wide-ranging plasma and LCD TV 2008 model rollout that will include, when complete, models in both 720p and 1080p versions and screen sizes from 26 to 65 inches and – in the high-end LZ850 LCD and PZ850 plasma ranges due out later this year – the company’s VIERACast IPTV solution.
“The 2008 VIERA push is for better picture quality, connectivity and customer service,” explained Panasonic Display Co.’s Steve Millilo in providing a model overview that detailed the various specification characteristics of the ranges. He added that Panasonic’s Concierge customer care program, once limited to plasma SKUs, is being extended to the LCD line. He also said that the “critical mass of models” in both lines would be released by early April.
In plasma sets, the PX80 720p and PZ80 1080p series are now shipping. The PX80 models, in 42- and 50-inch versions, offer Game Mode, while the PZ80 series adds a new 46-inch screen size. In the second half, says Millilo, Panasonic will introduce OpenCable Applications Platform (OCAP)-capable models to these lines via a feature Panasonic is calling True Two-Way.
