Panasonic’s Kono Re-Assigned to China, Replaced by Yamada
In a shakeup of its North American executive ranks that coincides with the establishment of two new divisions, Panasonic on Thursday announced that North American President and Chief Operating Officer Martin Kono had been re-assigned to Panasonic Marketing Company of China. Kono has been replaced as president on an interim basis by Yoshi Yamada, previously the chairman and CEO of the North American division. In addition, Panasonic announced Thursday morning that Joseph M. Taylor had been named executive vice president and chief operating officer for Panasonic North America.
Also on Thursday, Panasonic announced the creation of two new divisions related to plasma, LCD and MMD TV digital displays. One unit, Panasonic Display Company, will handle the consumer end, while the other, Panasonic Professional Display Company, will deal with business-related applications of the technology.
Kono had left his position earlier this month, but the departure was not officially announced until Thursday.
