Paramount, Dreamworks Go HD DVD-Only
In a major development in the high-definition DVD format war, Paramount Pictures and Dreamworks Animation announced that they will now release titles exclusively to HD DVD, the AP reported. Paramount and Dreamworks had both supported both HD DVD and Blu-ray since the start of the war last year.
According to Deadline Hollywood Daily, the Web site of LA Weekly entertainment industry correspondent Nikki Finke, HD DVD’s backers paid $100 million to Dreamworks and $50 million to Paramount for the exclusivity.
Paramount purchased the previously independent Dreamworks SKG studio in 2006, but spun off the studio’s animation division as Dreamworks Animation SKG.
