Parts into Gold
"Partsearch is working with manufacturers to provide an intranet solution, working with integration issues on a manufacturer-by-manufacturer level," Summers said. "We're providing them tools to make it easy to get us that data."
Having signed data agreements with top-tier manufacturers in the CE, major appliance, computer and cellular phone industries, In 2003, Partsearch will pursue data agreements with higher-end consumer electronics manufacturers as well as more computer manufacturers.
According to Summers, OEMs are very interested in how Partsearch is using their data. "At CES, we spent a lot of time with manufacturers who provided us data, showing them what we did with their data. Most of the manufacturers were amazed. They were asking 'How can we use this data now internally?'" he said, adding that Partsearch's master parts catalog effectively created a parts information retrieval system that didn't exist internally at most manufacturers. "We're creating more accurate parts information that, even for the manufacturer, didn't exist before. They want us to help get that data out."
