Global PC Shipments Rise; Apple Takes Third Spot
Global PC shipments rose in the second quarter while declining in the U.S., while Apple leapfrogged two competitors to become the #3-selling domestic PC brand.
According to numbers released this week by Gartner, worldwide PC shipments rose 2.3 percent in the second quarter, with Dell coming in second in market share behind HP.
Domestically, PC sales dropped 5.6 percent from the second quarter of 2010, to 16.9 million units. Apple took the #3 spot in U.S. market share, behind HP and Dell and ahead of Toshiba and Acer. The numbers do not include tablet sales.
