Best Buy Co., Inc. named Michael Zimmerman its new vice president of corporate support in the Services Leadership Team. Previously, Zimmerman was Compaq's director of consumer customer service and support. Best Buy also promoted two vice presidents. Bob Davidson is now vice president, merchandising for computers and Mary Miller, vice president, brand management.…Roberds, Inc. announced the resignation of President Robert Wilson. The Board of Directors re-appointed Melvin Baskin as president.

The International Recording Media Association (IRMA) lost two key veterans last month. Larry Finley, founder of the International Tape Association (ITA), now IRMA, passed away April 3, 2000, at the age of 86. Then, on April 12, 2000, Andrew Bourne, European customer services director of IRMA's deluxe video services Europe, died of an apparent heart attack. Bourne was elected European vice president of IRMA in 1989, a position he still held at the time of his death.

Sony Corp. of America announced the appointment of Fujio Nishida as president and chief operating officer of Sony Electronics Inc. (SEL), effective May 1. Nishida will replace Teruaki Aoki who will now become corporate executive vice president at Sony Corp.'s headquarters in Tokyo.…Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) Chairman and CEO John Calley announced SPE is creating a new business unit called Sony Pictures Digital Entertainment. Senior SPE executive Yair Landau was named president of the new operating unit and will report to Yuki Nozoe, SPE co-president, and Mel Harris, co-president and COO of SPE.
