"The customers go to first, second and third, then they're off to home," said Lavine, a huge Red Sox fan. "For an independent dealer to do this, you really have to be prepared."
Percy's was also prepared to service the customers who registered for the program but missed out because the money dried up so fast (Note to dealers: There's still close to $3 million left in the New York Great Appliance Swap Out program). Some of those measures include gift cards, smaller discounts and delivery deals.
"Do whatever it takes to make the customer happy," Lavine told one employee, as he answered an endless stream of questions to keep the event rolling smoothly along. "Apologize and give the customers a couple of options."
