Where Millennials Fit in this Picture
Everywhere you read, someone has new data about the Millennials. On the surface, they appear different than every other generation. Yet, everything they describe can be chalked up to “engagement.” The truth is, every generation has wanted to be engaged, but it’s what employees want that has evolved over time. I recently read a survey of adults 18 to 36 from Business Insider and News to Live By that found “compensation” as the main motivator when Millennials are searching for work. So while it may seem out of date, don’t underestimate the competiveness of compensation and benefits when it comes to retaining (and attracting) your employees.
There are definitely synergies between recruiting and retention. While this is a simple concept, it’s sometimes not easy to execute. Understanding your culture is the key to understanding your people, and when you understand your people, you will be better prepared to recruit and retain the right talent.
