Sony contributed a palm-sized model—the DSC-P1—that weighs just 7 oz. and features 3.3MP resolution, a 3x optical (39mm f/2.8 to 117mm f/5.3 equivalent) zoom and an 8MB Memory Stick. Its power comes from a lithium ion cell.
Back among the traditional film camera companies, Canon introduced its advanced PowerShot G1 offering 12 shooting modes and a new high performance lithium ion battery pack that provides power for up to about 800 images (with LCD monitor off). The 3.3MP SLR-type G1 is fitted with a hot shoe that permits use with four of Canon's Speedlite series electronic flash units.
Leica also introduced a high-end model, the 4.3MP palm-size Digilux 4.3 that measures 3.1 x 3.8 x 1.3 inches, weighs 9 ounces and works with a 32MB SmartMedia card and Adobe Photoshop 5.0 LE software. The lens is a fast 3x (36 to 108mm equivalent) f/2.8 zoom. Not to forget its photo/film heritage, Leica also showed two accessories: Digimacro 4.3 for close-up shooting down to 11.5 inches and Digicopy 4.3 for copying slides.
