Pixel 4 Screen Protector Leak Hints at Touchless Interface
Leaks these days seem to come from the damndest of places. A recent 9to5Google report cited a tweet from Ice universe, which featured two images of what look to be Google Pixel 4 screen protectors. And, from those images, we’ve been gifted with a new rumor that Google’s next flagship smartphone will probably feature the results of Project Soli—a chip developed by Google that will enable touchless interactions with the device.
The concept of touchless interactions isn’t new. Just last year, it was reported that Apple was pursuing gesture controls in the iPhone using its powerful FaceID technology. Of course, project Soli from Google previously cropped up back in 2016 when the group behind the venture published some early findings of their gesture control experiments. Then again, Apple had actually patented touchless gestures as far back as 2013—not to turn this into a debate of who really began developing this concept first or anything.
