In the 12-volt category, Polk is making available to its mobile dealers a line of full-range passive coaxial woofers formerly available only in Best Buy, according to Suskind. The line is being built out to include a 6 1/2-inch slim-mount, a 5 1/4-inch coax, a 5 1/4-inch component model, a one-inch tweeter and eight-inch single- and dual-voice-coil component woofers.
Polk will also add four new ultra-compact digital amplifiers that are less than 1.8 inches tall priced in the $250 to $450 range. The two-channel model is seven inches by six inches and the five-channel SKU is about the size of the current stereo amplifier. “Customers buying aftermarket equipment aren’t interested in having a rack of amps mounted in the trunk,” said Suskind. “They’re looking for more stealth-type installations, and with digital technology, that’s possible.”
Polk also plans to move more aggressively in 2011 into social networking and media as important outreach venues, and will develop programs specific to those venues that will become evident in the mid-to-late first quarter.
