Polycom Announces Recall
Polycom, Inc. said Friday that it has issued a voluntary recall of battery packs for its SoundStation2W conference phones, due to faulty Lithium Ion battery packs. The recall is being conducted along with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, and should affect around 8,300 phones, as well as replacement battery packs.
The batteries, which were made by the Chinese firm Gold Peak Industries, “can overheat, which could pose a fire or burn hazard,” the company said in a statement. There has been one reported case of such damage, although no one has been injured.
Consumers are advised to immediately remove the battery pack and instead use the phone by keeping its charger plugged in. Polycom will be providing free replacement packs.
