Audiovox’s ‘Wide Open View’
Malone: We’re going to take a conservative approach to flat panels. Could there be some price stabilization with the screen supply issues that are occurring—possibly; but it’s still a predatory marketplace. Our position will be that we will offer products in the smaller sizes—typically 15- to 32-inches. We will go to the second-tier distribution, the regional retail accounts, offer a brand and a good value that’s not typically available at the national retail stores. We’re going to do direct shipments to our accounts to keep the volatility out of the pricing.
DS: What new technologies or product categories is Audiovox most interested in now?
Malone: Overall, everything in the wireless category—wireless in the home in terms of delivering wireless audio and video. We think that simplifying the installation process is going to be a key driver going forward. On the mobile side, everything will revolve around simplifying the installation process in the car. That will come from new data bus technology.
