Prices Down, Sales Up For LCDs on Black Friday
Prices of LCD TV units plunged on Black Friday last week, leading to a sales increase, research firm iSuppli Corp. said this week. According to the firm's research, retailers dropped prices by an average of 22 percent, leading to a 6 percent increase in sales over the previous year's Black Friday.
Counting TVs in the 32-inch category, prices dropped 24.7 percent from previous prices on the average, while 19-inch TVs dropped 36.8 percent. Meanwhile, 42-inch sets dropped 7.3 percent and 46-inch TVs by 7.2 percent.
“Defying some pundits’ expectations, U.S. retailers this year were able to offer their customary Black Friday promotional deals for LCD-TVs, which represent a critical factor in driving annual sales growth,” Tina Tseng, analyst for iSuppli, said as part of the release of the data.
