Prices of Small LCDs Actually Rose Over Holidays
While prices of flat panels have typically gone down over time since the technology gained prominence, a recent anomaly took place which actually saw certain LCD panels going up in price.
According to iSuppli figures cited by the New York Times’ “BITS” blog, the wholesale price for small LCD screens- the kind used in digital photo frames and some smaller LCD TVs- actually rose during the fourth quarter of last year. The gains were mostly due to strong demand over the holidays.
The rise was short-lived, however; those prices are expected to drop 3.3 percent in the current quarter, after jumping 20 percent in last year’s fourth quarter.
