HD Radio Coming in Loud 'n Clear
HD radio, by all accounts, is coming in loud and clear over retail channels.
After a two-year build-up, 14,000 retail and online outlets carry some 80 SKUs of HD radio-receiving products, with distribution reaching a broad spectrum of dealers, including national electronics stores, warehouse clubs, regional chains and A/V specialists, according to technology developer and licenser iBiquity Digital.
Sales and product training, strong merchandising and thoughtful demo displays will help the market grow its foothold and gain mindshare through retailers. The main sales driver, however, is already built into the products: once a customer buys the hardware, the services are always free. That type of marketing angle is all-important with today’s wary consumer.
