WinePod Maker Gets New Round of Funding
The company behind the WinePod, a device that enables oenophiles to actually make wine at home, announced this week that it had received a major cash infusion which will allow them to significantly expand.
ProVina Incorporated, which launched the WinePod last year, has received $4 million in venture capital from the CE-savvy firm of VantagePoint Venture Partners, it said in a statement.
The WinePod’s system is like a more sophisticated version of home-brewing. The actual appliance handles all of the fermentation, pressing and ageing of the grapes that usually takes place in wineries, while companion software helps to manage the process, while also putting users in touch with others. The software also interfaces wirelessly with the WinePod machine.
