And it’s also that recipe that led Mohu to pursue a completely new category of product with the BeBox–a speaker with a built-in Android tablet that can stream music via the web, Bluetooth, or through a 3.5mm jack (read a review of Mohu’s BeBox here).
“There are a lot of us here who really just have a passion for high-quality sound. We felt like that’s been lost in the marketplace over the years with the maturation of speakers,” he said. “You had the boomboxes in the 80s, you started listening to earbuds, and now Bluetooth speakers that keep getting smaller and smaller and smaller. And really, what we wanted to do was just bring that quality back to the consumer.”
Though audio is a new category for Mohu, it’s not like they were going in blind—Buff explained that he has a deep background in audio from his college days, and the company’s vice president of marketing has a degree in music and an audio background. But it was their collective passion to build a high-quality product that they’d want to own.
