As a company, Futurehome is on track for a net increase in sales for 2007, said Richards, explaining that the custom division’s affluent customer base “is more resistant to these kinds of economic problems.”
However, Richards doesn’t think Fresno’s troubles are over. “Other trades here, the concrete companies and framers, for example, have laid off 70 to 90 percent of their staff within the last three two four months.”
And he expects unemployment to create its own set of problems. “The domino effect in the economy hasn’t gone full circle yet,” Richards.
