Interview: New Age’s Fred Towns on the holidays, new offerings and how to reach Millennials (Part 1)
HOLLYWOOD, CALIF.- At New Age Electronics’ Dealer Retail Summit here Wednesday, we sat down with New Age Electronics President Fred Towns to discuss the conference so far, how the rest of the year is looking for New Age and the industry at large, the impending Windows 10 launch and the elusive question of who the industry can reach the Millennial generation. This is part one of the discussion; stay tuned for part two on Monday.
Stephen Silver: What are your impressions so far of the event and how it’s going?
Towns: I’m really happy with the event so far this year. Number one, I thought timing really played strong. We’re at a time when people can still affect their holiday season. I think the vendors really gave us a lot of support this year. I mean, you can go into one place and have 46 different vendors you can talk to. And we’re not talking to demo people, we’re talking to the business owners of all these brands. It makes a big difference to our customers who are independents. When we go out and pitch to our customers why they should attend, we use that in our pitch. We’re going to ask that the key people be here, all the way down to our keynote speakers today at our presentation, down to talking to people in the booths- they’re the people who make the decisions about the product.
