Q&A: Jen Soulé, Other World Computing
Dealerscope: You were head of product development at OWC before moving into this position. What are some of the initiatives that have already been started that you plan to follow through on, and what future product development avenues or categories do you plan to pursue as president?
Soulé: I’m still directly involved with some of our enterprise and Thunderbolt storage initiatives that I started while in product development. However, my successor is taking on more and more of the daily decisions and coordination efforts needed to bring the products to market. I’ll continue to push development in those areas as well as in other product categories because a constant flow of new, different, better products is the lifeblood of our growth.
In addition, I’m especially excited about the opportunity to shape the direction of our accessories division. We have a tremendous opportunity to meet the market’s needs for more technically advanced accessories rather than the host of poorly thought out accessories that are little more than nice disposables. Seeing how people respond to our case line and our new line of Lightning and Dock cables, it is clear that while there are many alternatives out there, unfortunately they don’t have the quality and longevity that our customers are looking for – and that is going to be one of my biggest challenges in the next few years: effectively communicating how we differ from the competition and helping the consumer better understand our offerings and the benefits they bring. That is an exciting challenge. I also look forward to expanding on the philosophy of enhancing and extending the life of the investments customers have made as well as broadening – vertically and horizontally – our accessories line.
