Red Zune Appears at Target, Amazon First
When the latest edition of Microsoft’s Zune music player made its debut over the weekend, it did so only in two places. That was because of an exclusive deal the software giant made with Target and its partner, Amazon.com, MediaPost’s Marketing Daily reported Friday.
The new Zune, which is red- which, as MediaPost pointed out- is also Target’s primary color, will be available only at Target and Amazon for 30 days, and then become available elsewhere around July 10. It follows a pink device that was introduced in May, and will be followed closely by a Game Stop-exclusive, limited-edition player based on the popular video game Halo 3.
Makers of portable music players have had success with color-coded sales promotions ever since Apple’s release of a U2-themed black iPod in 2003.
