Report: Advancements in Bioacoustics Sensing will Expand Wearable Device Capabilities
Warning: We’re about to get a little scientific on you here. A new report by research firm Frost & Sullivan released this week looks into the impact of bioacoustics sensing on a number of fields, including consumer electronics. Bioacoustics sensing, they explained, integrates biology and acoustics to create a new sensing platform. In consumer electronics, potential applications of the technology include the ability to transform user interaction with mobile phones, laptops, and electronic appliances; and the ability to allow for interactive projection to augment environments.
The importance of all of this, as it relates to wearables, is this: Bioacoustics sensing will be incorporated into these devices in the coming decade, according to the report. And, "unlike discrete or integrated sensors, bioacoustics sensors are lighter and reduce the weight of the overall system," TechVision Research Analyst Sitanshu Shastri, said in a statement. "The use of flexible substrates enables customization according to desired form factor as well as the creation of new designs."
