Report: AT&T May Offer Cheaper iPhone Plans
BusinessWeek reporting that "people with knowledge of the company's thinking" have said that AT&T is considering cutting its iPhone service pricing or offering tiered plans. The sources claim that a limited data plan that reduces monthly costs by $10 could be introduced by the end of the month. Envisioneering Group Director Richard Doherty told BusinessWeek that the potential move may relate to AT&T's renegotiations with Apple, whose iPhone contract with the provider comes to an end this year, "We understand it's part of the extension [of its contract] that AT&T wants to maintain."
Tiered pricing would be nothing new for the provider, which offers a variety of data plans for a number of devices including the BlackBerry. While AT&T and Apple have declined to make an official statement, the blogosphere was abuzz with rumors Monday helping "AT&T" become a trending topic on Twitter , with a flood of posts speculating about the rumored offerings.
