Report: Microsoft Will Not Attempt iPhone Rival
Microsoft is not planning a rival product to the iPhone, and in fact has no plans to entire the “smartphone” hardware market at all. That’s according to an interview the company’s founder and chairman, Bill Gates, gave to the German publication Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Reuters reported Wednesday.
Gates told the interviewer that the extent of Microsoft’s smartphone plans are to continue supporting the Windows Mobile operating system, and to continue serving its hardware partners, which include Samsung and Motorola.
Earlier this week, Gates gave what is expected to be his last CES keynote address as Microsoft chairman; he is scheduled to step down later this year to devote his full attention to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
