Nearly 30 percent of music retail value will come from mobile downloads by 2011, up from around 13 percent today. That’s according to a survey released this week from the research firm Understanding and Solutions.
The gains are expected to reach $11 billion in revenue in four years, which may serve to help offset the other struggles in the music industry. The gains were attributed by the firm to the willingness of music and telecom providers to provide such capabilities, as well as technology that has improved and will only improve more with time.
The firm’s consultant, David Sidebottom, was quoted in the study’s announcement as saying that mobile may eventually become the number one platform for music.
