According to a new report by Retail Forward called “American ShopperScape 2006,” consumers are choosing to shop at fewer and fewer total locations, making stores that are not leading in their field at risk for marginalization. The report details the monthly shopping habits of thousands of customers, analyzing the ways in which they are consolidating their consumption, a trend which began in 2003. The report also provides a scorecard for retailers to use to find out how they rate against the competition. Other findings include the fact that 60 percent of consumers have changed the way in which they shop this year, that two-thirds of shoppers shop online and that pricing changes are the most salient factor in affecting shopping habits.
