A Google-Enabled Phone, After All?
The long-rumored Google-produced smart phone may not have ever come to fruition, but a smart phone with Google features is reportedly as real as ever.
The Taiwanese technology magazine DigiTimes reported Wednesday that High Tech Computer (HTC) will release a smart phone in 2008 that comes equipped with access to GMail, Google search functionality, and other Google technology. DigiTimes also said the new phone will run on Texas Instruments’ 3G platform.
Rumors were rampant earlier this year that Google was planning a phone to compete with Apple’s forthcoming iPhone, but the company said last month that no such phone was under consideration. The company did say at the time, however, that it was working on software for mobile phone use.
