Reports Swirl that Sony is Working on a 4K-enabled PlayStation 4
We’re well short of the typical window for a major gaming platform to release their next generation console—PlayStation 4 was released roughly two and a half years ago, which is not even half as long as their six-year average between big releases—but that doesn’t mean the PS4 can’t get a bit of a facelift right? Well, reports have been all over the place with a couple of major tech news outlets going as far as confirming the fact that Sony plans to release an updated version of the console in the very-near future.
This wouldn’t be an entirely new concept for Sony. With each of their three previous consoles (PlayStation 1, 2, and 3) they’ve released slimmer versions of the same product. However, this new PS4, while aesthetically improved upon, would also see some hardware upgrades—I guess something like Apple releasing their ‘s’ phones every other year.
Here’s the latest (try to follow along): On Monday, Gamespot reported that the Wall Street Journal backup up reports from two gaming news sites—Eurogamer and Kotaku—that a stronger “PlayStation 4.5” is in the works. Lots of he-said-she-said’s in there, but enough he-said-she-said’s that it becomes too hard to ignore.
