Republicans Block DTV Delay Bill
A proposal to delay the scheduled DTV transition until June was introduced in the U.S. Senate Friday, but quickly blocked by Republican opponents. Supporters, however, have vowed to try again this week.
According to the Associated Press the bill, introduced by Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Sen. John D. Rockefeller (D-W.V.), would delay the transition date until June 12. President-Elect Barack Obama has called for a delay in the transition, scheduled for Feb. 17, although the incoming admistration has not specified a preferred date.
A House version of the bill, supported by Rockefeller's House counterpart Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) is also scheduled for a vote in the coming days.
