Retail Excellence Award- Conn's
Conn's long-time consumer electronics

"Most of our customers are repeat customers," says Bill Nylin, president of Conn's. For 114 years, the company, which started out as a plumbing store, put customers first. Though it wasn't until Carol Washington Conn, Sr. joined the team that the retailer adopted its more recognized name, and as early as 1937, the plumbing business shifted into appliances. To this day, the retail chain, based in Beaumont, Texas, sells name-brand appliances and consumer electronics in major metropolitan areas stretching to Louisiana. Lake Charles, La., was the site of Conn's first out-of-state store, opened in 1969. But by the early 1990s, Conn's experienced its first $100 million sales volume thanks to dozens of branches.
