Retailer Conn's, which was sued in the spring by Texas' state attorney general for deceptive trade practices, is seeking to either have the case thrown out or, failing that, to receive more specific information about the allegations.
According to the Houston Chronicle Conn's, in lieu of a dismissal, is seeking information about such things as the names of each consumer with a complaint.
Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott brought the case, which seeks civil rather than criminal penalties, after the state Better Business Bureau received more than 2,000 complaints. Accusations in the suit allege that Conn's failed to honor product warranties, misled customers about the nature of its products and advertised falsely. Abbott's suit was filed under the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act.
