Retailers Form Cargo Theft Squad
Working with U.S. Customs and deconsolidators in Miami, then talking with the NCSC, Schnupp realized that retailers were doing very little to protect their supply chains.
"We go through all this effort working to protect the merchandise in our stores, but we did nothing to protect it coming to us," he said. "Organized crime always had their hands in some kind of transportation theft."
Schnupp floated the concept of the RISCS at the International Mass Retailers Association meeting earlier this year. "By putting our collective heads together, we can identify security problemsin the supply chain and in the store," said Schnupp. "Then we can go back to our respective companies and create an awareness of the magnitude of the crime."
