Dealers Don’t Fear the Cheaper … 4K UHD TVs
Audiotronics is also positioning the Seiki sets next to Sony's 4K models, with the hope that customers will choose the more expensive TV. Guyes also thinks the low price of the Chinese sets will benefit the market.
"Those TVs give us a leader price point into a new category of products," he said. "It doesn't denigrate Sony because the Sony is such a superior product. The low price might also force the top-tier manufacturers to bring their prices down, not to commoditize the TVs but to make them a bit more affordable."
Industry leaders have no doubt that the prices of tier-one 4K UHD TVs will drop, but many think they'll continue to sell at higher prices than top-of-the-line 2K models. And many consumers, at least those that shop in the thousands of independent specialty electronics stores throughout the country, will be willing to pay more for the quality and features that sets from the top-tier manufacturers will offer, dealers said.
