He continued, "We've probably covered in range of half of it and it's been a stretch, because we continue to do the other advertising and TV is not cheap."
The coming year is presenting challenges and opportunities. "The money is much harder to get this year," Mincy said, predicting that as corporate money belts are tightened, funds allocated for cross promotional projects could become lighter. Still the company remains hopeful and is hoping to find some opportunity in the Winter Olympics broadcasts this month. Mincy is courting Pioneer and Sony as partners in future projects.
Not all of Ovation's broadcast markets have been as aggressive in HD, but that may change this year. Though the Kentucky PBS station, WKET, has been broadcasting in HD since 1999 (Ovation partnered with that station to help them light their transmitter at the state fair in Kentucky), the other area broadcasters have not. That should start changing this Spring as network affiliates, such as WAVE (NBC), begin to air HD programming. Though no plans are yet official with any such station, Mincy is talking with the broadcasters to see how Ovation can be involved with HD broadcasting.
