HDTV Sales Seen Rising
Sales of HDTVs are expected to rise this year with momentum expected to continue into next year. That's according to figures released this week by research firm SNL Kagan.
The firm predicted that sales will reach 29 million units this year, up from 26.2 million in 2008. However, SNL also predicted that revenues will drop to $25.5 billion, from $28.4 billion in 2008. The difference was attributed to consumer preference for more affordable, smaller displays.
"As average HDTV set prices continue to fall to the $600-700 range by 2010-2011, we should see mass adoption begin to take hold, with over 80-90 percent penetration of TV households," SNL Kagan analyst Justin Nielson said as part of the announcement.
