NPD: Windows 7 Launch Surpasses Vista
Sales of Windows 7 in its first few days has significantly outstripped those of Windows Vista in a similar amount of time, according to numbers released by the NPD Group this week.
The firm found that sales of Windows 7 were 234 percent higher than those of Vista, with dollar sales 82 percent higher. The new software was released Oct. 22.
"Microsoft's program of early low-cost pre-sales, high visibility marketing, and aggressive deals helped make the Windows 7 software launch successful," Stephen Baker, vice president of industry analysis at NPD, said as part of the announcement. "In a slow environment for packaged software Windows 7 brought a large number of customers into the software aisles."
